A flavorful pizza sauce that works perfectly on pizza or as a dipping sauce! It makes enough sauce for 3-8 pizzas and can be frozen if you don't plan to use it right away!

If you want some pizza crust recipes to try this recipe on, I suggest any of these 4:

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil

  • 1 Tbsp. butter

  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1¾ tsp. onion powder

  • ¼ tsp. red pepper flakes

  • 1½ tsp. dried basil

  • 1 tsp. dried oregano

  • 1/4 tsp. salt

  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper

  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese

  • 1 Tbsp. Brown Sugar

  • 1 15 oz. (298 mL) can of plain tomato sauce

  • 2-3 Tbsp. Tomato Paste

  • ⅔ Cup Warm Water

Directions:

  1. I recommend some prep work before starting, it makes everything go smoother. Peel the garlic. Mix dried spices together in a small bowl. Open up the cans of tomato paste and tomato sauce. Measure out your parmesan cheese and brown sugar in a bowl.

  2. In a medium pot over low-medium heat, add the olive oil and butter and heat until almost shimmering.

  3. Add the minced garlic, stir and cook for about a minute. Then add the mixed spices and stir a few times and allow the herbs to bloom.

  4. Add Parmesan Cheese and brown sugar.

  5. Then quickly dump in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water and mix together. Bring to a light boil. Turn down to low and simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours uncovered.

  6. Taste for seasonings. Add more salt, if desired.

  7. Makes about 2 cups. Enough for 3-8 pizzas. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months and thaw before using.

Get all your ingredients together! It's a lot but that means you're making a very flavorful sauce!

I recommend measuring and preparing ingredients before you start the sauce. There's spices measured out in the bottom right, next to that is the brown sugar and parmesan measured out. My garlic cloves are peeled and my tomato cans are open!

Heat the olive oil and butter until shimmering.

Add the garlic and stir and cook for about a minute.

Then add the spices and stir and cook for another minute.

Add in the cheese and brown sugar

Then dump in the water, tomato sauce, and tomato paste.

Stir everything together and bring to a gentle boil. Afterwords reduce to a simmer.

Let the sauce simmer for 1-2 hours uncovered.

After simmering, mine got nice and thick! Now it's ready to store in the refrigerator/freezer.
