Eggs in a Frame

An easy and amazing breakfast! Crispy buttery fried bread with a perfectly cooked egg in the middle! You really can't go wrong here. There are many, many names for this, with popular ones being "egg in the basket" or "egg in a hole", but my mom always called them egg(s) in a frame and she knows best! It is necessary to also fry the middle piece!!!! Even if you don't have a runny yolk it's delicious!
The recipe is here, and pictures of the process are below:
Ingredients (per egg in a frame):
- 1 half inch (~1.3 cm) thick slice of bread
- ~1 Tbsp. softened salted butter
- 1 egg
- Salt & Pepper or other condiments
Directions:
- Make sure your butter is very soft so you don't tear the bread. Butter both sides of the bread. Then use a ~2 inch (~5 cm) diameter glass cup, circle cookie cutter, or something similar, to cut a hole in the middle of the bread, then separate the pieces.
- Heat the bread on low-medium heat (4-5).
- To make a soft, runny yolk: You have to be patient for this method. Fry the bread (and the circular middle piece) until golden brown on both sides. Then lower the heat to low. Add a little bit of butter in the hole and crack in the egg. Fry until the white has cooked a little and the bread is easy to move around the pan. Flip the bread and fry just until the white is cooked but the yolk is still runny.
- To make a fully cooked/mostly cooked yolk: Fry the bread until golden brown on the bottom side. Melt a little butter in the hole and crack in the egg. Cook until the white is mostly cooked. Then flip and dry until cooked to your desired doneness and golden brown.
- Top with salt, pepper, and/or other toppings and serve immediately!

The basic ingredients you'll need. You can definitely used pre-sliced storebought bread.

Your butter should be very soft like this, especially if your bread is soft.

Butter the bread on both sides.

Cut a hole in the middle.

Separate, and next you'll start frying!

Add the bread to a pan.

I am making a runny yolk so I fried until golden on each side, then melted a little butter in the middle.

Crack in the egg.

Fry until the white is somewhat set before flipping. (Use the mentioned method in the directions if you want a more cooked egg!)

Flipped it and fried a little longer.

Immediately place it on a plate and serve!

I love dipping the circle toast into the runny yolk. Savory and divine :D

Downright sexual.
