Buttermilk Waffles

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

A fast and easy waffle recipe that is delicious, buttery, fluffy on the inside, and not too sweet. It honestly tastes good fresh out of the waffle iron with butter. Of course I still love smothering it with syrup :D. I highly recommend this recipe, you can easily tweak it to meet your needs!

Related Breakfast recipes:

Ingredients (for 6-8 waffles):

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (284 g)

  • 1/4 cup white sugar (50 g)

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (18 g)

  • 1 teaspoon fine salt (5 g)

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5 g)

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (3 g)

  • 1 3/4 cup buttermilk (430 g)

  • 1 large egg (~55-60 g)

  • 2 large egg whites (~65-80 g)

  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 4 tbsp. unsalted butter melted

  • Butter or spray for the waffle iron, waffle toppings

Directions:

  1. Preheat the waffle iron while you make the batter.

  2. In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, cornstarch, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Set aside.

  3. In a smaller bowl whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter.

  4. Whisk the wet ingredients into the dry until mixed but there are still a few lumps.

  5. Grease the waffle iron on both sides with oil or butter (I prefer butter).

  6. Ladle in enough batter to fill but not overfill, close, and cook as directed by your waffle maker. Mine takes about 5 minutes per waffle, a good sign it's done is that less steam comes out and the sizzling is quieter.

  7. Remove when golden brown and brush with softened butter. Serve hot and fresh for the best taste.

  8. If you don't plan to serve right away let cool n a wire rack to they stay crispy.

  9. Can keep covered up to 3 days and reheat in a toaster.

All the ingredients (I made 1/2 the recipe). Begin preheating the waffle iron before you start.

Whisk together the dry ingredients in one bowl and wet ingredients in another.

After mixing the wet and dry together. Tiem to make waffles!

Add batter to the preheated and greased waffle iron.

Cook until golden brown and springy to the touch.

Remove and place on a plate or cooling rack and butter while it's still hot! Serve hot and fresh!

A stack with butter and syrup is lovely! But feel free to top it with anything you'd like.

So fluffy on the inside :)
